I considered Julia Roberts's smoking (and advocacy of same) in "My Best Friend's Wedding" to be a neurotic reaction which comes to the fore when she has difficulty coping. This doesn't make smoking desirable. This point seems to have been lost on many people, including First Lady Hillary Clinton (not that I would expect her to have keen perception when political mileage is at stake).
