The scene that to me best expresses the power of a love relationship (which is not the same thing as a lovemaking scene) occurs in "Street Angel" (1928), in which Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell are about to be separated by the law. For about ten minutes, they clinch in their repeated good-byes, each more powerful and committed than the previous--as impossible as it comes to seem to top the physical expression they'd last given.
